Typica is one of the oldest and most important coffee varieties, often considered the genetic foundation for many other coffee cultivars. It is highly regarded for its balanced profile, which makes it the cornerstone of many modern coffee strains.
Typica delivers a harmonious flavour profile, typically featuring mild acidity, a medium body, and notes of fruit, floral, and sometimes nutty undertones. Depending on the growing conditions, it can offer subtle complexity and sweetness, making it highly prized in specialty coffee circles.
Terrior
The best environments for Typica are those found in volcanic and fertile soils, common in coffee-producing regions like Colombia and Guatemala. The ideal altitude for growing Typica is between 1,000 and 2,000 metres above sea level, where the cooler temperatures allow for the gradual maturation of the coffee cherries. These conditions help enhance the cup’s clarity, complexity, and flavour balance.
