Cafetiere Coffee

Calling all coffee connoisseurs and those who appreciate a rich, full-bodied brew! Our Cafetiere Coffee collection is perfect for those who enjoy the ritual of coffee making and savor the robust flavors and aromas that only a French Press can deliver.

The cafetiere, or French Press, offers a simple, elegant brewing method that allows for maximum control over your coffee experience. Immersing coarsely ground coffee in hot water extracts the full spectrum of flavors and oils, resulting in a uniquely satisfying cup.

We carefully select and omni-roast our beans to complement the cafetiere brewing method. Our single-origin coffees and expertly crafted blends shine in this immersive brewing style, highlighting their nuanced flavors and aromas. Our Calli Blend and El Metate are both excellent performers in a cafetiere.

For a basic cafetiere recipe; coarsely grind your chosen Kota Coffee. Heat water to just off the boil (around 200°F or 93°C). Add your ground coffee to the cafetiere. Pour a small amount of hot water over the grounds and let them "bloom" for 30 seconds. Pour the remaining water over the grounds, stir gently, and steep for 4-5 minutes. Press & Serve: Slowly press the plunger down and pour your delicious coffee immediately. You can also read and watch all of our brew guides.

Cafetiere Coffee FAQs

What is cafetiere coffee?

Cafetiere, also known as a French press, is a simple and elegant brewing method that produces a full-bodied, rich cup of coffee. Coarsely ground coffee is steeped in hot water, and then a mesh filter is used to separate the grounds from the brewed coffee.

What type of coffee is best for a cafetiere?

Cafetieres are versatile and can be used with a variety of coffees. However, they tend to highlight the full body and richness of a coffee, so medium to dark roasts often work well. Single-origin coffees from Sumatra, Brazil, and Guatemala are excellent choices for cafetiere brewing.

What grind size should I use for cafetiere coffee?

A coarse grind is essential for cafetiere brewing. This prevents over-extraction and ensures a smooth, balanced cup without excessive sediment.

How do I brew coffee in a cafetiere?

It's easy! Here's a basic guide:

  1. Pre-heat your cafetiere with hot water.
  2. Add coarsely ground coffee to the cafetiere.
  3. Pour hot water (just off the boil) over the grounds.
  4. Steep for 5 minutes.
  5. Stir gently to ensure all the grounds are saturated.
  6. Steep for another 5 minutes.
  7. Pour through the plunger (don't press!) and enjoy!

How much coffee should I use in a cafetiere?

A general guideline is to use a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:15. This means using approximately 30 grams of coffee for a 450ml (3 cup) cafetiere. You can adjust this ratio to suit your taste preferences.

How do I clean my cafetiere?

Cleaning your cafetiere is simple:

  1. Remove the plunger and filter.
  2. Discard the coffee grounds.
  3. Wash all parts with warm soapy water.
  4. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
