The nation's diverse microclimates and commitment to organic, fair-trade practices result in a coffee that is not only delicious but also ethically produced.

Terroir

Peruvian coffee is known for its bright acidity, light to medium body, and a clean, sweet finish. Common tasting notes include citrus, cocoa, caramel, and roasted nuts, often with floral and fruity undertones

History

Coffee arrived in Peru in the mid-18th century. However, it was not until the late 19th century, when European demand surged due to a coffee rust plague elsewhere, that Peru's coffee industry began to scale. The late 20th century saw a significant boom driven by the global demand for "ethical" and organic coffee, cementing Peru's place as a leader in sustainable production.

Peru is a global leader in both organic and Fair Trade certified coffee. A vast majority of production is carried out by smallholder farmers who use traditional, chemical-free methods. The country is actively developing systems to ensure all coffee is deforestation-free, further highlighting its commitment to environmental stewardship.
