This beautiful Guatemalan coffee from Finca Medina brings brightness and bundles of juicy fruit to the cup with notes of kiwi fruits, blackberries and papaya.

Roasted for filter to achieve the ultimate expression of this coffee, it works really nicely across V60 through to Aeropress, where it generates a syrupy body. You might say its dreamy.

Finca Medina

Established in 1842, Finca Medina stands as a testament to the rich heritage of coffee cultivation. Nestled across 100 hectares in the embrace of the Agua volcano, just on the outskirts of Antigua, Guatemala City, our farm embodies the perfect synergy between modern technology and time-honored techniques, resulting in the creation of exceptional Antigua coffee.

At Finca Medina, each coffee batch undergoes a meticulous evaluation in our laboratory, where we meticulously assess traceability, quality, fragrance, aroma, flavour, balance, sweetness, and various cup profiles tailored to the unique preferences of our clients.

Our commitment to sustainability extends to a state-of-the-art water treatment plant, meticulously designed for the wet part of the coffee processing. With a primary stage featuring an anaerobic, facultative, and wastewater pond system, coated with a protective plastic membrane, we prevent water filtration to the groundwater layer in the subsoil. Our goal is to pioneer water cleaning in coffee processes, aiming to surpass even the most stringent parameters in BOD and QOD indexes.

Notably, the coffee pulp doesn't go to waste. Instead, it serves as the raw material for our organic compost. In this eco-friendly process, we utilize 30% of the water used in the wet stage of coffee processing. Using a specialized compost machine, the sub-products are mixed and turned regularly to ensure proper aeration, water liberation, and carbon dioxide release.

The water resulting from coffee processing finds a purpose in our compost beds, playing a vital role in rehydrating the compost. It introduces beneficial bacteria and enzymes, enriching the decay process. To further enhance the compost, we integrate wooden sticks, leaves, and other natural by-products from our farm activities, like wood chopping and tree trimming. Once the compost reaches the ideal stage, it becomes a potent organic fertilizer, nourishing our cherished coffee trees.

This thoughtful approach to transforming and utilizing sub-products reflects our commitment to recycling and reutilizing waste in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner, effectively closing the entire cycle of coffee production. At Finca Medina, our legacy is not just in the coffee we produce but in the harmony we maintain with nature, ensuring a flourishing future for generations to come.

Caribbean Goods

Caribbean Goods was founded with the dream of making coffee farming in Guatemala fair for the hardworking farmers who produce it. The founder, Javier, was born and raised in Guatemala and went to school with some of the farmers we buy our coffee from.

Javier Gutiérrez Abril grew up in Guatemala City, where he witnessed poverty, extreme violence, and a lack of educational opportunities from a very young age. He volunteered for several movements that aimed to make the world a better place, such as Techo para mi Pais and Soñar Despierto. During his bachelor's degree, he also found time to support orphaned children at Casa Bernabé.

Javier's life experiences inspired him to become an activist for a better world. He believes that education is the key to a successful future and understands the importance of a sustainable world. Therefore, he focuses his time and effort on contributing to a greener world and promoting education for everyone, everywhere.

After obtaining a bachelor's degree in Engineering from Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, he left for Scotland in 2017. He then got another degree in Finance from Strathclyde University, and Caribbean Goods was born.
