Batian is a relatively new coffee variety developed by the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO). Known for its high resistance to diseases such as coffee leaf rust, it was designed to offer Kenyan farmers a more reliable option with excellent cup quality. Its name, "Batian," comes from a mountain in Kenya, symbolising its strong characteristics and resilience.

Flavour

Batian coffee delivers a bright and balanced cup with a range of fruity notes, such as red berries and citrus. It has a good level of acidity and a well-rounded body with hints of chocolate and floral undertones, making it a desirable choice for speciality coffee lovers.

Terrior

Batian thrives in fertile volcanic soils found in Kenya's central highland areas. These soils, combined with the moderate temperatures and high rainfall in these regions, provide an ideal growing environment. The favourable soil composition allows Batian to develop its characteristic fruity and acidic flavour profile.
